andrea + todd :: engagements

have i ever mentioned how much i just love it when brides book me because of a referral from their best friend?! when i first went full time with photography i shot max and cassie’s wedding. i always say one of the best things about going to baker college for interior design was because i met cassie. a great friend. and of course she introduced me to some of her other great friends, one being andrea. it was at a house party a few years ago, she says she remembers that i had just gotten engaged so that puts it…

jake + megan :: engagement

i had the honor of meeting jake a few years ago, but nothing more than a hello. fast forward and i received an email from jake telling me about how he was recently engaged and looking for a photographer for their engagement pictures. i was stoked. after emailing back and forth a few times [of course megan took over so we could figure stuff out haha] we set up a time to meet in hudsonville and later head to grand rapids. while emailing, megan told me that they had a limited schedule because jake was being deployed and they had…

emma jo :: senior

emma and i go way back. family friendship put us together. if i remember correctly, it started due to horse back riding. a common interest. jeff and sally (emma jo’s parents) bought 3 horses with no background in horse back riding so our family took it upon ourselves to help them learn the tricks (of course). one thing about horse riding is when you ride with a family, you get very close to them. learn things about them that very few people know. so they basically become family … and i love it.

what do i love about emma jo?!…

mackenzie :: senior

where the photography career started. [do i say that alot?] well … this is for real. you see, i had the best job ever when i was sixteen. i was a nanny for three adorable little girls. naughty, but cute 😉 samantha, mackenzie, and delaney. huge sports family … hence the reason why the girls are always the best on the team … at every sport. they’ve been on the cover of women’s sport magazine for their hockey talent and have won the michigan state championship for softball three times [with my sister brittany]. i guess i owe it to…

[the other] vruggink family :: portraits

i’m a wedding photographer. no ifs, ands, or buts about it. well … maybe a few ‘buts’. when i quit my full time interior design job in january … i knew this year would be full of some fun portraits and not going to lie, i’ve enjoyed it throughly. i think i’ll always fill my months with a few portrait sessions. when i meet with a family with three kids under the age of 6, boy am i glad i have a nephew and niece. it has taught me patience. and thats exactly what you need when you photograph children.

garret + kaila :: just because

the night of abbie’s senior session in saugatuck … kaila and i got to talking. see … she’s such a nice sister that she accompanied her little sister and helped her smile, laugh, and just be silly. i loved having kaila come with us so we could catch up because it had been so long since i last saw her (when we shot her senior portraits like … two years ago!) so we were super excited to bond again. after talking about life and whats new (which was lots of stuff) we talked a bit about the man in her…
